Wind – our inexhaustible source of energy
Wind is a natural and inexhaustible source of energy. Offshore wind therefore provides a vital contribution to securing an independent and sustainable energy supply. Generating electricity from wind means sourcing clean energy without the creation of dangerous waste or emissions, which damage the climate.
Offshore wind power makes an important contribution to the future energy mix. Due to more persistent wind and higher wind speeds at sea, offshore wind can produce up to 4.500 full load hours per year, almost double the amount generated by onshore wind. This fact allows base load calculations for offshore wind. In comparison: photo-voltaic systems with an ideal orientation can produce up to 1.000 full load hours per year.
Operational phase
Commissioned offshore wind farms generate high yields, but are also exposed to harsh weather conditions. Furthermore, bridges, tunnels and port facilities may become subject to higher loads due to more intensive traffic use.
Customized operation & maintenance concepts thus need to be developed in order to ensure the highest availability for optimized operating times and to prevent any kind of damage to the assets.
